Empowering Earrings – fair employment for Nepalese women
Originally we had planned to present our Nepal project to you for the first time in April, but the covid-19 mixed our plans and products got stuck for months when Nepal's borders closed. Now finally we have the joy and honor to introduce you to the Empowering Earrings Collection!
The jewelry is made by a small company run by a mother and daughter team in Kathmandu. They share the same dream with us: to create fair and equitable jobs for women and lift them out of generational poverty. Anjila and Indu are the cornerstones of their community, they have the heart to help everyone in need, and many people turn to them when they need help.
One of Kaiko’s biggest dreams and goals is to advance women’s education and employment in the world’s poorest regions. After merging with the Store of Hope, we have taken an important step forward with our dream. Anna and Eeva from Store of Hope have worked with this same goal for over seven years. Last autumn Kaiko’s and Store of Hope’s joint trip to Nepal kick-started the idea of joining our forces for our common goal to change the fashion world. This is how our first jewelry collection - Empowering Earrings -was born.
After the coronavirus closed Nepal for months, the situation in the country changed from a crisis to a humanitarian catastrophe. In Nepal, the change that every fair job brings to the local community is extreme. Now Kaiko’s role is to introduce skilled craftsmen and our conscious consumers to each other. This way we can all be a part of a positive change and create an impact for a better world.
