Kaiko x Lunette - Why do we donate menstrual cups to Nepal?
Our goal is to help break taboos on menstruation in Nepal and give out menstrual products to women who need them.
Improving menstrual hygiene has a direct impact on the well-being and health of women, and it makes it possible for them to go about their normal life also during their period. In the Nepalese countryside, there are many taboos and traditions surrounding menstruation that are reflected in the lives of women in cities, too, as menstrual myths.
Due to the low standard of living, the available menstrual products may not be safe to use because of insanitary conditions or toxins. Girls and women may also miss school and work if they do not have reliable menstrual products available to them. Single-use products are a problem also because waste management in Nepal is nonexistent.
A menstrual cup is economical, as you can use the same cup even for years. It is also easy to keep clean, because you can just rinse it with water and boil it clean. A menstrual cup is simply more ecological, economical and hygienic than single-use alternatives.
Menstrual cups donated during the campaign will be delivered to Nepal, and training will be organized locally on menstrual hygiene and how to use the cup. Our goal is that women and girls could talk about their period without fear or shame.
“The right to safe and sustainable menstrual hygiene is a matter of human rights.”
